Cycling Lake Michigan: Michigan City to New Buffalo | Indiana & Michigan 🚲

I'm catching up on some of my adventures from earlier this year, and this bike ride from Michigan City, Indiana, to New Buffalo, Michigan, was one I wanted to share.

Back in May, I headed up to Lake Michigan with my bike and camera for a day of cycling and exploring. I've spent quite a bit of time along the southern Lake Michigan shoreline, but there are always new places to discover, especially when exploring by bike.

Riding Along Lake Shore Drive

One of my favorite parts of the ride was cycling along Lake Shore Drive, just east of Michigan City.

This scenic road follows the Lake Michigan shoreline through Long Beach and toward Michiana Shores. Along the way, there are beautiful lakefront homes, wooded areas, sand dunes, and stretches where you can see the water from the road.

I especially enjoyed the sections where the road sits above the beach, with views looking out across Lake Michigan. It's such a beautiful area to explore by bike, and I stopped several times to take photos.

I also made a stop at Sheridan Beach, where the giant blue Adirondack chair made a perfect spot for a photo with my bike.

Continuing Toward New Buffalo, Michigan

From there, I continued toward New Buffalo, crossing the Indiana–Michigan state line.

New Buffalo is a town I've visited before, and I always enjoy spending time there. Between the marina, the beach, and the downtown area, there's plenty to explore.

I rode down toward the waterfront and stopped to photograph the marina, boats, and the New Buffalo Beach lighthouse.

The sky was beautiful that day, with big white clouds stretching over Lake Michigan. I spent some time taking photos of the shoreline and enjoying the views before continuing on.

Exploring Lake Michigan by Bike

One of the things I enjoy most about cycling is being able to cover more ground while still taking my time to explore.

I love finding scenic roads, interesting architecture, waterfront areas, and little places I might otherwise drive right past. Having my camera along makes it even better.

This ride had a little of everything: quiet residential streets, lake views, sandy beaches, and the chance to explore another Lake Michigan town.

It's a beautiful stretch of shoreline, and I'd definitely ride it again.

A Little Route 66 Photography

I also have a few photos from Wilmington, Illinois, including the colorful Route 66 mural and some of the older downtown buildings.

I've always enjoyed photographing historic downtowns, especially the brick architecture, old storefronts, and details that give these towns their character.

The Route 66 mural was another fun photo stop.

More Adventures Along Lake Michigan

The southern Lake Michigan shoreline is one of my favorite areas for a day trip. Whether I'm hiking, cycling, exploring a small town, or spending time at the beach, there's always somewhere new to go.

This May ride from Michigan City to New Buffalo was a great opportunity to get outside, put some miles on my bike, and add a few more photographs to my collection.

I'm looking forward to exploring more of the shoreline on future rides.
