Finding Art Between Errands: An Afternoon with My Camera in Peoria 📸

Today started with something ordinary — a Costco run.

But instead of heading straight home, I did something different. I had my camera with me — my Nikon Z6III — and the afternoon light was too beautiful to waste.

So I decided to turn a simple shopping trip into a small creative challenge.

I drove into Peoria to explore a few of the downtown murals. The air was warm. The sky was soft. That late-afternoon glow made the brick buildings feel alive. There’s something grounding about walking slowly through a city with a camera in your hand — noticing color, texture, shadows, stories painted on walls you might otherwise rush past.

Murals feel like a city’s heartbeat. They tell stories without asking permission. They bring art into everyday life. Standing there, framing each shot, adjusting focus, watching how light moved across painted lines — it reminded me why I love photography.

It wasn’t about getting the perfect image.
It was about being present.

About stepping away from productivity and into creativity.

About choosing warmth and beauty on an ordinary day.

Peoria surprised me a little today. Between big box shopping and traffic lights, there were bold colors, layered brush strokes, and quiet corners filled with artistic expression.

Sometimes the best adventures aren’t road trips or grand plans.

Sometimes they’re just:
• Bring the camera.
• Take the side street.
• Look up at the wall.
• Capture what feels alive.

And let the afternoon unfold.
